Important corrections to "What is your hope?" leaflet (December 2018)
If you have received a leaflet entitled What is your hope? (during the latter part of 2018),I must point out the following mistakes:
1) Incorrect statement that, "The Church of England was biblically and legally reformed in 1643", and
2) Incorrect statement that, "The Church of England swore to biblical and legal reformation in 1643"
Rev. Greg L. Price has kindly pointed out that the above information is inaccurate, because many of the changes ecclesiastically in England at that time were administered by the Westminster Assembly (since there was not a National Synod for the Church of England). Moreover, rather than there being a National Assembly of the Church of England, much of the practical application of Presbyterianism was administered by 12 presbyteries in and around the confines of London (that were organized as the London Provincial Assembly) and then efforts were being made to stretch out to other regions of England from London (but these efforts were brought to an end by Cromwell).
The prelacy of the Church of England was clearly abolished by Parliament in 1642 and subsequently sworn to be extirpated in the SL&C (1643), but what was established in its place was implemented gradually until the year 1658 (shortly after Cromwell's death and before the restoration of Charles II) when the Church of England was officially established as a Presbyterian Church.
